Brother MW-260
The Brother MW-260 looks like something out of the future. It is a highly portable thermal printer designed to be carried in a laptop bag and supply hard copies while on the go. There are limitations to this cutting edge technology, but the visual aesthetic of the printer is definitely not one of them.
The MW-260 is designed to print on Brother’s A6 thermal printing paper. The paper is sold in packs of 50 sheets and loads directly into a cassette that is then attached to the printer for on demand use. Thermal printing paper is typically thin with a slight chemical smell to it, but the Brother thermal paper for the MW-260 is neither of these. Brother offers a quality print that is not only distinctive because of its small size but thicker than most other thermal papers for comparable printers.
The overall size and weight of the MW-260 demonstrates that it is designed to be carried as a portable periphery to a laptop. The printer operates on a rechargeable battery so there is no need to worry about finding electrical outlets when printing on the fly. Bluetooth, infrared or attachment by USB are all options for connecting one’s laptop to this printer. The MW-260 is compatible with the latest Windows operating systems for laptops. Additionally, the MW-260 is compatible with pocket pc Windows mobile and Blackberry operating systems. Unfortunately, Brother has not released any software that can make this printer compatible with smart phones.
The quality of prints created with the MW-260 is comparable to monochrome desk jet printers. The MW-260 offers a printing solution that will generate high quality prints that are slightly smaller than normal, but the portability of the machine is its key advantage. There are few other competitors in the MW-260′s class, but they do not print a page with the comparable thickness of a standard sheet of printer paper. When on the go, the MW-260 a great choice.
